What an amazing 2023 we have had, full of special moments and beautiful experiences. From the Alternative Elfstedentocht at the Weissensee to organizing a wedding and participating in the television program “Het Roer Om”, we have really experienced everything.

The fact that we were able to enjoy lots of snow and ski in different ski areas is like a dream for winter lovers. And of course, campfire nights and discovery walks in our village made the summer months extra special.

One positive experience I had was flying alone to the Netherlands and that September was a month of changes, especially regarding Bert’s new job. And of course, the involvement with the charity Kinderdroomwens shows that we not only cherish our own happiness, but also try to help others.

November’s chore month became a great month to improve the accommodation to welcome even more guests. And finally, December with Christmas, family, and hopefully lots of snow sounds like a warm and cozy end to the year.

I hope the coming year will be just as rich in special moments and great memories. We have found a great balance between work, relaxation, and sharing loving moments with friends and family. Here’s to a fantastic new year 2024!

Austria is a very beautiful holiday country, but also to live in! Often a fantastic spectacle of nature takes place here!

The village feels more and more like our second home. Weissbriach is “gemütlich” as they say here. Our guests say it feels like coming home.

Last year there was a plan to renovate the space we used to eat together after the week of the Kinderdroomwens. The starting point of a major new project in the garden was born. Do things that make you happy!

A space where our guests can retreat, read a book, drink a glass of wine in front of the wood stove or play a game. We also make breakfast for the guests here because it is a nice place to meet.

The 2022 summer season has been great!
Many beautiful and sweet guests have been able to celebrate their holiday here this year. But also guests who returned, friends and family who spent a few days with their tent, caravan or camper in the garden, but also guests who wanted to know everything about our emigration. We are so happy with little guests who want to take a picture with us so that they don’t want to forget us. Made beautiful memories and heard enough beautiful stories from special people.

Made our neighbors drink with Austrian Goulash together!
We invited our neighbors to eat Austrian Goulash together. I started peeling onions early in the afternoon to make his delicious Goulash recipe together with Koni (our neighbour). A wonderful and pleasant evening with the other neighbors and another beautiful tradition has been made.

Enough plans to keep going!
Now it is winter and we are going to experience the alternative Elfstedentocht at the Weißensee for the first time. We are very curious and will certainly encourage our own guests! We will soon go skiing with our family and celebrate Christmas 2022!

We are really starting to feel at home now and to believe that this is totally our place, because yes it took quite some time. But we have come to love the country like a real Austrian does. 

What have we done and experienced? I worked at the alpine holiday park in Reisach. A family campground in the mountains with 14 log cabins and a nature pool. I got to be part of the team that does everything they can to make the camping guests feel comfortable. 

And yes, organizing my first wedding was genuinely a treat for me and I am genuinely proud of what we have achieved. Getting married in Austria is very special after all. Celebrating a wedding experience together with the family, relatives or friends makes it very intimate. We found the best wedding officiant and together with my friend Sandra we came up with the most beautiful dishes. Thinking back on the whole day gives me butterflies in my stomach all over again. This is something I will really think about for years to come!

We had the opportunity to participate in the television program “B&B full of love”. Our friend Caroline owned a beautiful B&B in Bad Kleinkirchheim. Unfortunately we did not meet a man, but we do have some beautiful memories.

That is how we got to know Gita who has become wheelchair dependent from June 2017. What an inspiring woman she is and what a great time we had with her and her husband. She will be training for the handbike battle on June 23, 2022. The Handbike Battle is a handbike race in Austria, for people with disabilities. Gita we are going to follow you! Good luck!

Last autumn vacation we were able to give a fantastic week to three families in collaboration with the Kinderdroomwens foundation. A fantastic foundation that helps families with a traumatic experience. What a cool thing to do! So grateful, again I want to thank everyone who has contributed to this. My dream has come true thanks to the Kinderdroomwens foundation! Monique thank you!

On the front page of “our” Apeldoorn newspaper is of course the icing on the cake! We could tell our story about the corona, lockdown and what it does to us. Our own “Badeplatz Stephan” for moments to chill by the water or take a splash on hot days. Brenda and Stephan with their sweet dog Mexx have here 4 weeks the apartment Nassfeld booked and that was really a little party! Hope to see you soon!

The entrance/entrance to our Berghaus has been given a metamorphosis with a heated ski room. In the garden we will have a stube with a scaffold wood kitchen and a pallet stove. But the best is yet to come because next year our daughter is getting married. “You know us so well and you know better than anyone how to turn our day in 2022 into a wedding that suits us. Together we celebrate love!

Finally, we wish everyone lots of love and happiness for the coming year 2022 and we toast to a healthy and loving year. Make beautiful memories together!

It has now been almost a year since we signed the purchase contract for our B&B in Weissbriach, Austria and it sounds cliché but how long ago it seems! So much has happened in the meantime. What a wonderful summer 2020 we had, the beautiful weather, the warm evenings and our dear guests from all over but also dear friends who have come anyway. Even my in-laws have been here for 8 days. And yes of course the children have also been here and on my birthday I was even unexpectedly surprised by them.

Despite the corona that occupies us all well, we were able to do a lot about the property (with help that is), enjoyed the beautiful nature in our backyard and still held a BBQ / campfire evening every week. We laughed, consoled each other, there was guitar music, we roasted marshmallows, we sang along, toasted with Zirben schnapps (pine cone liqueur), shared beautiful stories with each other, celebrated birthdays, made friends but most of all spent a lot of quality time. Collect memories not things!

From this place we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came with us last summer and who were able to celebrate their holiday here. Our Berghaus is getting more beautiful and that is because of you because we have received even more inspiration and energy from you to continue with our dream. From December, our new room the Lodge can be booked including breakfast with a brand new bathroom. We are very curious what you think of it. Let us know.

And now on to winter. In front of our Berghaus there is a huge blue spruce where we will soon be hanging with Christmas lights. You will never forget a winter break in the Berghaus Weissbriach. At night millions of stars illuminate the clear sky. Our small-scale and personal accommodation is exactly what you need if you want to enjoy peace, space, freedom, a unique experience and natural beauty in the Berghaus Weissbriach. When you arrive here, you know enough: you will quickly feel at home here. The landscape is like a fairytale, the air is pure, everything is covered with thick layers of snow and the atmosphere is very special with all those lights when it is dark.

Yeahhhh our first blog on our own website! How incredibly cool is this as we look forward to our beautiful and exciting adventure. 

Who are we? My name is Linda and I currently work as a management assistant at the municipality and my husband Bert works at a medical company in Amersfoort. 

We love nature and are passionate about outdoor pursuits such as cycling and hiking, it’s just wonderful being outside in the open air! 

We have 4 children who we love very much, without their support we would never have been able to do this.  Our “son/daughters in law” are also outstanding with their support and we are so happy with everyone in our extended family. 

Another 2 months and then I bid goodbye to the municipality of Apeldoorn after having enjoyed working there for 15 years.
But we are both ready for a new challenge so why not follow your feelings and take this great exciting opportunity together? 

Now we are moving it is time to clean up and start to pack all our belongings, which is certainly a very good thing as while we are not a hoarding family we have a lot of space and if you have space you keep everything hahahahah!
Since we started sorting everything we have discovered the most beautiful items that we forgot we even owned!
